Yasmin Roshanian Editorial

Manuscript Critiquing

For the writers who have a complete manuscript (congratulations!), I offer different levels of editorial services, depending on whether you have a first draft or a manuscript in the final stages of development:

Editorial Assessment

I provide comprehensive notes on plot, structure, character, and pacing. You’ll receive notes in the margins and a guided editorial letter with suggestions for revisions. Once you’ve had time to digest, we’ll have a call to review any questions and discuss the proposed edits.

Developmental Editing

For the writers looking for a closer critique of a revised manuscript, a developmental edit focuses more on line by line examination, taking a closer look at the prose and any lingering issues you may want to tweak before querying or publishing. You’ll receive detailed notes in the margins including line edits, an editorial letter detailing suggestions for a final edit, and a follow-up call to discuss questions and next steps.

Content Development

For the writers aiming to apply to MFA programs or workshops, polish a work and submit for publication, or query agents. I provide notes on short stories, feedback regarding application materials, and assist in drafting query letters. We’ll also structure a plan around pitching and submitting to literary magazines, researching MFA programs and workshops that resonate with your writing style, and researching the agents who may be the best fit for you and your manuscript.

Calls will occur weekly or monthly; on an hourly basis, depending on your objectives. In between calls, I’ll help you to revise your material, ensuring that it’s in the best possible shape before sending it out to the respective MFA program, publication, or literary agent.

Still not sure?

That’s okay! I’m happy to organize a complimentary 15-minute call to discuss the best possible option for you, talk through any issues or concerns as we identify where you are in your writing trajectory. Although I specialize in literary fiction and young adult, I’m also happy to talk through your genre and see if we’re a good match.
